Troubleshooting

Mould

Mould can clear on its own, but if it persists or begins to take over the ecosystem, you can pop the lid ajar and allow up to 1 hour direct sunlight into your terrarium per day for a few days until the mould clears. Remember that your ecosystem will have lost some moisture to evaporation through this process, so pay attention to condensation levels a few days after replacing the lid and replace it as needed.

Fungi

Fungi are a natural part of the ecosystem and may occasionally appear in your terrarium. This is usually a sign of good quality soil and can add to the natural aesthetic in your terrarium. Mushrooms and Fungi tend to have a short lifespan and can grow and decay within a few days. You can use terrarium tweezers or chopsticks to remove mushrooms (avoiding contact with your skin) and dispose of them carefully.

Fungus Gnats

Untreated mould can attract Fungus Gnats. These flying bugs look like the common fruitfly. If you notice a fungus gnat in your terrarium, remove it as quickly as you can.

You can also use a mixture of equal parts honey, vinegar, and washing up soap in a deep bowl to attract them. Leave the mixture in a deep bowl beside the terrarium and remove the lid to attract and eliminate them.
